More Opportunities, More Equity: Results from the Graduation Approach in Mozambique

Between 2021 and 2023, we worked alongside 5,000 families in Mozambique as part of the Graduation component of the Rural Enterprise Financing Project (REFP). Through a comprehensive approach, we supported communities in strengthening their livelihoods, increasing their income, fostering a culture of savings, and becoming more resilient to economic and climate-related challenges. This video captures the results and lessons learned from this experience in the provinces of Sofala, Manica, Tete, and Zambézia, where we worked together with the Ministry of Agriculture and with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). At the beginning of the program, 74% of participants agreed, fully or partially, with the statement that women are just as capable as men of contributing to household income. By the end, this figure had risen to 88%, reflecting a broader acceptance of women’s economic role. Men’s involvement in domestic tasks also increased significantly: the percentage of those dedicating one hour or more per day to household chores rose from 70% to 86%. More than just numbers, this is about transformation — the kind that happens when we trust in people’s capabilities and provide opportunities for them to thrive.
