ICTP Distinguished Conversation: Ashoke Sen
Ashoke Sen, one of the world’s best-known physicists to work in the field of string theory, is interviewed by ICTP Director Atish Dabholkar.
The two discuss Sen's far-ranging work on various aspects of string theory and quantum field theory, including the relation between equations of motion of string theory and two dimensional conformal
invariance, solution generating techniques in string theory, S-duality, black hole entropy, and the relation between F-theory and orientifolds, to name a few.
Sen is a professor at the International Center for Theoretical Sciences at Bengaluru, India, and has a long affiliation with ICTP, having won the centre's ICTP Prize in 1989 and the Dirac Medal in 2014. He has also been a distinguished staff associate in the HECAP section and has served on ICTP's Scientific Council.
The interview was made in March 2025.
