IORA Day 2025
The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) was founded in 1997 for promoting regional cooperation and economic development among countries bordering the Indian Ocean. What started as a small initiative has now expanded into a strong and diverse community of 23 Member States and 12 Dialogue Partners, working together for prosperous, and sustainable Indian Ocean region.
IORA focuses on six priority areas: Maritime Safety & Security, Trade & Investment Facilitation, Fisheries Management, Disaster Risk Management, Academic, Science & Technology Cooperation, and Tourism & Cultural Exchange. The two cross cutting areas are Blue Economy and Women’s Economic Empowerment. Through IORA priority areas, IORA encourages collaboration by organizing workshops, training programs, developing guidelines and capacity-building initiatives, ensuring that all Member States benefit from shared knowledge and expertise.
IORA continues to foster collaborative work through partnerships with Member states, Dialogue partners, Regional and International organizations, and Academic Institutions for Sustainable Development in the Indian Ocean Region.
