Today is World Wildlife Day. For 2026, we are celebrating medicinal and aromatic plants as the catalog and creative machines they are for the creation of potentially useful molecules, something we could never dream of producing in a lab. But plants, of course, are not the only evolutionary chemical powerhouses of nature, they are just, let's say... easier to pin down. In this video, UNU-BIOLAC fellow Samuel Hilevski explains in his own words the work he's advancing with Caiman latirostris and its gut microbiome, as a reminder that Wildlife as a whole is the fundamental provider of biotechnological tools, and its conservation is an investment in the future.
