Is there a link between preserving Cuban forests and curing breast cancer? Yes! Cuban researcher Talía Frómeta tells us about her work looking for molecules that can stop tumoral growth in the secretions of an endemic toad. One of the best strategies against cancer is looking for unique traits important to tumoral cells and then attacking that with a highly specific chemical. And there is no catalog of new molecules quite as big as Biodiversity. At UNU-BIOLAC, we are happy to have awarded Talía a fellowship in 2025 to support her career and this path to new and effective antitumoral drugs.
