By founding a women-led cooperative, building a processing plant, and restoring degraded lands with fruit and native trees, she transformed her community’s economy and environment. Through sustainable harvesting, nursery creation, and local leadership, Hortense’s work tripled production and empowered women and youth. Her story proves that resilience, innovation, and ecosystem restoration can reshape livelihoods and that one person’s determination can revive both nature and hope.
