From Water Scarcity to Hope: How Latter Day Saint Supported Project Transformed Mayange Community
Access to safe water was once a daily struggle for families in Mayange Sector, Bugesera District. Long distances, unsafe sources, and poor sanitation contributed to the spread of waterborne diseases and affected everyday life.
Today, that story has changed. With support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, WaterAid Rwanda implemented a transformative Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project that has improved access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services for thousands of people.
Through this project:
💧 Over 7,500 people now have access to safe and reliable water closer to their homes
🚰 Water supply systems, pipelines, and infrastructure have been constructed
🚻 100 household latrines have improved sanitation and dignity
👥 Community members, including water user committees and local masons, have been trained to sustain services
🧼 More than 10,000 people have adopted improved hygiene practices
This documentary captures real voices from the community, showing how access to clean water is not just about infrastructure, it is about health, dignity, and opportunity. From reduced waterborne diseases to stronger, more resilient communities, the impact is clear. In Mayange, safe water is no longer a distant goal, it is a reality.
