The GSMA Mobile Money Certification (MMC) was launched in 2018 to enhance the safety and transparency of financial services for mobile money users worldwide. The certification ensures secure, reliable services and protects consumer rights, combating money laundering and terrorism financing. Although the MMC was the brainchild of GSMA, it is administered by an independent assessor organisation that assesses over 300 criteria during the certification process. Once a Mobile Money Provider (MMP) or Digital Financial Services (DFS) player is certified, their Certification is valid for 3 years, after that, the entity has to apply for re-assessment and certification.
