💭60 Years of ICOMOS: A Conversation with Víctor Pimentel Gurmendi
🎉This year ICOMOS celebrates its 60th anniversary. On this festive occasion, seven distinguished ICOMOS members look back on our shared journey dedicated to the conservation and protection of cultural heritage worldwide.
The last interviewee in this series, who are proudly presenting, is Víctor Pimentel Gurmendi!
In this interview, we return to the early days of ICOMOS, when the Venice Charter was signed by pioneers including Víctor Pimentel Gurmendi. With years of experience as renowned architect, conservator, professor and founding president of ICOMOS Peru, Víctor Pimentel Gurmendi has made crucial contributions to the safeguarding of heritage sites in Latin America. He has been honored with, among others, the Premio América (conferred by the Seminarios de Arquitectura Latinoamericana) for his lifelong work in heritage conservation, the Hexágono de Oro (Peru) for his restoration of the House of Inca Garcilaso, and the title of Doctor Honoris Causa (Universidad Ricardo Palma and UNIFÉ) for his academic and professional legacy.
Hear from Víctor Pimentel Gurmendi as he describes the significance of the Venice Charter for cultural heritage preservation at the time and its ongoing relevance today.
