FAMILY FARMING: EMPOWERMENT TO CURB THE CLIMATE CRISIS
The World Rural Forum (WRF) presents a video about the first-time participation of a strong and coordinated delegation of family farmers at COP28. Under the title "Family Farming: empowerment to curb the climate crisis", this video not only recalls the achievements and lessons learned at COP28 but also sets the stage for COP29 and future climate actions.
It highlights the urgent need for greater support, as despite the crucial role of family farmers in climate action, only 0.3% of international public climate funding was allocated to small-scale agriculture in 2021. The video delves into the severe consequences of the climate crisis, such as increased poverty and migration, and shows how family farmers are on the front lines, suffering financial losses and land degradation.
Family farmers brought three key demands: 1. recognition of their crucial role, 2. their participation in climate policy formulation, and 3. equitable access to climate funds. Hear the testimonies of family farming leaders such as Célestin Nga (PROPAC), Rim Ferchichi (UMNAGRI), Alberto Broch (COPROFAM), and Kyle Stice (PIFON), who advocate for a future where family farming is part of the climate solution.
We will continue to seek meaningful participation of family farmers in global climate action, emphasizing the importance of having their voices heard and included in climate policy formulation.
