Scaling CHT in Côte d'Ivoire | CHT Community Roundup
In this month's CHT Community Roundup, we've got live demos, a national-scale deployment story, an open-source contributor spotlight, and the latest patch release notes.
Here's what's in this one:
🏥 Ivory Coast MOH Deployment — From Pilot to National Scale
The Medic West Africa team shares how CHT went from a 6-district pilot in 2024 to a full national deployment covering all 53 districts of Côte d'Ivoire by mid-2026 — with 8,000+ active CHWs, 200,000+ registered households, and funding from Global Fund. You'll get a realistic look at the phased approach: requirements, pilot, scale-up, user feedback loops, and what's coming next (self-hosted infrastructure and MOH capacity building).
Workflows covered: ICCM (malaria, pneumonia, diarrhoea), immunisation, malnutrition, ANC/PNC, family planning, birth and death registration, home visits, supervisor module, loss to follow-up, and commodity management.
📦 Live Demo: CHT Commodity / Stock Management Workflow
Yael walks through the end-to-end stock monitoring module built for Ivory Coast's CHWs — including inventory setup, stock requests, supply fulfilment, discrepancy resolution, and stock returns. Watch stock levels update automatically as a CHW treats a malaria patient in real time, with green/orange/red indicators surfaced directly inside clinical assessment forms via CHT's user contact summary.
🔁 Live Demo: CHT → DHIS2 Interoperability via OpenFN
Paul demos the automated pipeline that pushes aggregated CHW data from CHT into Ivory Coast's national DHIS2 instance — monthly, automatically, with Slack alerts and full Google Sheet–based configuration. No code changes needed to add a new CHW site or update a data element mapping. The same workflow is now running in Mali, with Togo in development.
Key components: PostgreSQL + CHT Sync → OpenFN → DHIS2 API, with org unit mapping in Google Sheets, pre-validation, batch uploads, cached JSON payloads, and configurable dataset completion.
👤 New Feature: Collapsible Contact Summary Cards (Coming in CHT 5.2)
CS student and open-source contributor Megha Kumari demos the collapsible contact summary card feature she built for CHT 5.2. One config property (collapsed: true). Fully backward compatible. And it directly solves a real problem flagged by CHW deployments tracking 80+ commodities on a small mobile screen. We also hear from Irene in Kenya, who confirms this has been a genuine pain point in the field.
🐛 CHT 5.1.1 & 5.1.2 Patch Releases
Josh runs through what's fixed: desktop form layout bug, duplicate SMS issue, and a critical bug in user contact summary recalculation logic — the fix that made the Ivory Coast stock demo possible in the first place.
