How can digital tools help detect outbreaks before they spread?

In this CHT Community Story and Demo, Medic Project Manager Hiell Avissoudo shares how we co-designed and deployed event-based surveillance (EBS) workflows with the Ministry of Health of Mali, using their Community Health Toolkit-powered DISC-Mali system, to strengthen community-level outbreak detection and reporting.

The approach facilitates adoption by CHWs who are already familiar with the system, and supports detection, alerts, and monitoring across various levels of care.

This locally-led innovation empowers community health workers (CHWs) to recognize and report potential outbreak signals in real time, helping accelerate response and prevent wider transmission.
