How can digital tools help detect and treat childhood wasting earlier in hard-to-reach communities? In this presentation and live demo, Noelyne Otho (International Rescue Committee) and Ben Kiarie (Medic) walk through the R-SWITCH (Research to Improve Screening for Wasting and the Identification and Treatment of Wasted Children) project and how the Community Health Toolkit is supporting community health workers and caregivers in Turkana County, Kenya. Turkana continues to face high Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) prevalence—21.8% in 2024, down from 26.4% in 2023, compared to a national average of 4.9%. Challenges including economic barriers, long travel distances, caregiver opportunity costs, limited outreach, and health system constraints make early detection and follow-up difficult.
