Neuroimaging Project Participants Testimonials from Kisumu County: Rising above Misconception.

How does the nurturing care framework shape a child’s brain? At the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), we’re using non-invasive neuroimaging techniques to explore how early experiences influence brain development among young children in Africa. The neuroimaging project is part of our broader commitment to advancing Early Childhood Development (ECD) research through science, innovation, and community partnership. By combining cutting-edge technology with culturally grounded engagement, we’re generating African-led evidence on how nurturing care supports lifelong learning and wellbeing. But innovation fails where there is no trust between the researcher and the research community. We recognize that introducing new research methods, like neuroimaging, can raise questions and concerns. That’s why we work hand in hand with parents, caregivers, and local leaders, ensuring that communities understand the purpose, safety, and potential of this work.
