Supporting Children Evacuated from Residential Care in Ukraine to Poland

When the war escalated in Ukraine in 2022, nearly 2,500 children from Ukrainian residential care institutions were evacuated to Poland. Many of them had disabilities, some were just a few months old. In coordination with the Ukrainian government, Polish authorities and humanitarian partners immediately mobilized to provide temporary accommodation and ensure safety of children. So far, UNICEF has supported more than 900 evacuated children, including 550 relocated to small group homes. In addition, UNICEF supported Polish and Ukrainian authorities in conducting individual assessments to identify stable, long-term solutions for every child.
