Adama from Mali on how fulfilling his dreams amid uncertainty thanks to peacebuilding
Meet Adama Diarra, a young electrician from Mali whose journey from employee to entrepreneur shows how determination and targeted support can transform lives – and communities.
After earning his electrical technology diploma, Adama spent five years working for someone else. He gained valuable skills and experience, but his dream was always bigger: independence and building something of his own.
Like many young people in Mali, Adama faced a critical barrier: lack of resources for equipment and startup capital. In Ségou, this shortage often determines who gets to pursue their aspirations and who faces the difficult choice between unemployment and recruitment by armed groups.
Adama chose his own path.
With support from our ADA-funded project, he secured essential equipment and launched his own electrical workshop. Today, Adama works independently, employs others, trains his peers, and grows his business steadily.
His success shows what is possible when young people get the resources they need to build their futures.
Watch Adama share his insights on youth entrepreneurship and the power of believing in his potential.
In Mali's complex security environment, supporting youth entrepreneurship is about more than economic development – it's an investment in stability, security, and opportunity.
