Mamadou Sylla's story: peace can build livelihoods
Meet Mamadou Sylla from Ségou, Mali. He's 28, and his journey embodies this year's #InternationalYouthDay theme of local youth action for the Global Goals better than anything else.
Mamadou's dream was simple: find work to support his family and give back to his community. But after graduating, he was caught in the cycle that so many young Malians face: unemployment with no economic prospects amid rising instability and insecurity.
While some of his peers chose the path of joining armed groups, seeking purpose through violence, Mamadou proved there was another way.
🙌With support from our project, funded by the Austrian Development Agency, he launched his own small business—a local poultry farm that transformed not only his life but also that of his community.
Starting with just 50 chickens and a dream, his farm has now expanded to 200, created jobs for three people, and strengthened the local economy by supporting local suppliers he's purchasing feed from.
▶️Watch Mamadou share his powerful message about peace, entrepreneurship, and building something bigger than himself.
"#peace and #stability mean everything to us. Without them, we cannot really achieve anything."
👉His story proves that when we invest in young people's local action and potential, they become the foundation upon which entire communities rise.
