Hawa from Mali proves peace can build opportunity

Meet Hawa, a young entrepreneur building stability for her family and community while navigating a complex security context in Mali. Like many young people in her hometown, Ségou, Hawa faced systemic barriers when starting her small juice production company: limited capital, inadequate equipment, and the constant challenge of building something sustainable while dealing with the rising insecurity and uncertainty it creates. But Hawa had vision and determination. With support from our project funded by the Austrian Development Agency, she secured seed funding and invested wisely – to upgrade production quality, improve packaging, and expand her market reach. Hawa has grown her business, now employing other young people. Her company creates crucial economic opportunities in a region where unemployment leaves youth vulnerable to recruitment by armed groups. In Mali's challenging context, Hawa's business represents more than entrepreneurship – it's peacebuilding in action. She's now planning marketing investments and acquiring semi-industrial equipment to serve neighbouring towns. Most importantly, she’s mentoring other young women entrepreneurs who want to follow her lead. ▶️ Watch Hawa share her insights on youth entrepreneurship, stability, and the power of economic opportunity. ➡️ Her story demonstrates that when young people in conflict-affected places have access to resources to pursue their dreams, they don't just transform their own lives – they become catalysts for broader community development, economic growth, and sustainable peace. ______ Music by #pve #youthleadership #youthentrepreneurship #womenentrepreneurs #peacebuilding #conflictresolution #mali
