Ebola Outbreak Explained
An outbreak of the Bundibugyo Ebolavirus was confirmed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda on May 15, with a public health emergency of international concern being declared just two days later. This outbreak of an unusual strain of the viral hemorrhagic fever promises to be very difficult to control, with over 500 cases and 130 deaths suspected and experts believing the virus has already been circulating for weeks. CSIS Global Health Policy Center Research Associate Sophia Hirshfield and Fellow Michaela Simoneau discuss the outlook for this dangerous situation and what challenges likely lie ahead.
