A second front for Europe: managing the United States

US President Donald Trump travels to Davos, Switzerland this week for the World Economic Forum, where he will meet with "various parties" about his push to acquire Greenland. 

"For Europe, the main focus has been, how do we cope with an aggressive Russia," Distinguished Nonresident Fellow Ambassador Julianne Smith said at a recent Council event. Trump's threats to annex Greenland "has opened up a second front ...  It's now about managing the United States and preparing for what might come in the weeks and months ahead on that front, while trying to maintain some dialogue with the United States and Moscow and Kyiv over the future of Ukraine."
