Keeping blood flowing when floods cut off hospitals in northern Malawi
Steven Bowah, an Africa CAN fellow, shares how flooding disrupts blood distribution to Chitipa and Karonga and what it takes to keep lifesaving units moving. Over six months he analyzed secondary data from the National Blood Transfusion Service and gathered insights through focus groups and key informant interviews. The result is a practical plan to improve visibility of blood stocks, speed cross facility transfers, and pilot drone delivery for hard to reach hospitals.
Steven also reflects on the fellowship experience, building skills to use data for decision making and to work across stakeholders.
