Soledad Avendaño, the Triqui artisan weaving a future

Soledad Avendaño Ramírez has been weaving since she was eight years old. Her mother and aunt taught her on a backstrap loom in Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico. Today she weaves more than huipiles. She weaves language, speaking Triqui with her granddaughters so the words stay alive. She weaves community, bringing together the Triqui artisans of her region so their craft is seen and valued. And through Emprende Pro Mujer, she learned to weave a livelihood, setting fair prices for her pieces, using social media to share her art, and connecting with women entrepreneurs across Latin America. Every thread holds memory, identity, and the conviction that Indigenous women are here, creating and leading. At Pro Mujer, we walk alongside women like Soledad, expanding access to the tools, networks, and opportunities that turn ancestral knowledge into lasting change. 🌐 Learn more and support women entrepreneurs like Soledad: https://promujer.org/
