In the Rio Grande Valley, with one of the highest rates of diabetes in the nation, without sufficient access to ophthalmologists and endocrinologists specializing in diabetes-related complications, we need better data to understand how to effectively manage health. Primary care providers, who treat 85% of people living with diabetes, are often not equipped with easy-to-use solutions that fit into their workflow, enabling the necessary retinal screenings. This is a tragedy since nearly all diabetes-related vision loss is preventable.
