How do they stay safe? Inspectors follow strict procedures before every mission. Medical checks, intensive training, and specialized protective gear. There are eight levels of protective clothing, each tailored to the level of chemical threat. Level one is basic gear like a hardhat and safety boots. Level eight is an airtight suit with its own air supply. Most often, inspectors wear level four, which protects against airborne chemical agents. Before entering a contaminated area, inspectors do a full gear check. Wearing these suits makes even simple tasks harder, from writing notes to taking samples. So inspectors practise routine tasks in full gear to ensure they are always ready. To exit safely from a contaminated area, inspectors follow strict decontamination procedures. The respirator is always removed last. Every step is designed to keep OPCW inspectors safe and mission ready for a world free of chemical weapons.
