Peer-to-Peer Dialogues: TCA Success Stories

The work to scale TCA implementation will be built upon a foundation of dozens of innovative pilots and case studies around the world that have demonstrated the potential for this approach to transform agrifood systems, creating lasting and meaningful benefits for people and nature. In a series of candid peer-to-peer conversations, leaders from diverse regions and sectors will share their stories from the field, compare notes, and discuss the strategies behind their recent successes. They will reflect on the specific ways TCA contributed to improved decision-making versus past approaches and the different outcomes that resulted. Speakers: Phumsith Mahasuweerachai - Behavioral Economist, Faculty of Economics, Khon Kaen University Phumsith's research focuses on improving the rate of new technology adoption for small scale farmers to enhance their livelihoods and reduce agricultural footprint. In addition, he also focuses on what and how different agricultural practices lead to different effects on farmers’ livelihoods, environment, and ecosystem services. His research also focuses on farmers’ household financial management including households’ saving and debt. He has published his research in various peer review journals such as Environmental and Resource Economics, Journal of Happiness Studies, and Journal of Asian Economics Saskia Sanders - Senior Policy Advisor, Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture Saskia is Senior Policy Advisor for Sustainable Food Systems at the Federal Office for Agriculture in Switzerland. She co-led the development of the Swiss country case study on the hidden costs of the Swiss agri-food system as part of FAO's SOFA 2024 report. She is also a member of the Swiss negotiating delegation to the UNFCCC climate negotiations. In her previous role, she developed the National Action Plan to halve food loss and waste in Switzerland by 2030 and helped to establish a cross-industry agreement to reduce food loss and waste. Brooke Gentile - Executive Director, Organic Association of Kentucky Brooke Gentile is the Executive Director of the Organic Association of Kentucky (OAK), with 25 years of experience in sustainable agriculture and stakeholder-driven project development across the U.S. She leads staff, manages grants and fundraising, and develops programs and partnerships. Brooke coordinates efforts to adapt and trial the Global Farm Metric Sustainability Assessment Tool with Kentucky farmers. She is committed to building a regional food system that supports farmers, enhances soil health, promotes biodiversity, improves climate resilience, and creates durable markets. Brooke is active in regional and national working groups and serves on several boards. Janet Maro - Executive Director, Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania Janet Maro is Executive Director of Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT) a national organization in Tanzania with the vision to reduce social and environmental problems and as well to provide sustainable food in ways that are friendly for the environment for the fast-growing global population. SAT engages farmers in communities at the grassroots working together to grow healthy nutritious food while safe guarding the environment and implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. Cristina Newsome Hastings - Head of Sustainability, Managing Director, Nuveen Natural Capital Cristina leads the strategy and implementation of sustainability across NNC’s global farmland, timberland and restoration platform. Cristina brings over twenty-five years’ experience in sustainability leadership and strategy. Previously held roles include positions at Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC), Accenture, AstraZeneca, and the Tropical Forest Alliance.Cristina graduated with a B.A and M.A. from the University of Oxford, an M.B.A. from the London Business School, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Value Chains from the University of Cambridge. Volkert Engelsman - Chair, Robin Food Coalition Founder and Former Eosta CEO, Volkert is now chairing Robin Food Coalition, a business network uniting for one-health, social inclusion and regenerative agriculture.
