From Aid to Opportunity: UN–Government Field Visit to Mahama Refugee Camp
A joint UN–Government of Rwanda field visit to Mahama Refugee Camp, led by MINEMA (Ministry in Charge of Emergency Management) and supported by UNDP, UNHCR, and IFAD, assessed progress in climate-smart dairy farming, refugee inclusion, and market-led livelihood solutions.
The visit showcases Rwanda’s approach to moving from humanitarian assistance to sustainable livelihoods, with a focus on reducing milk losses, strengthening value chains, and empowering refugees and host communities through skills development and climate-resilient agriculture.
Through strong leadership by MINEMA and close collaboration with UN partners, this initiative demonstrates how coordinated action can build resilience, promote self-reliance, and create long-term opportunities beyond emergency response.
