Rape is not Romani culture: ERRC condemns the acquittal of a Romani man in Spain
➡ A 20-year-old man who got a 12-year-old girl pregnant in Spain has been acquitted of statutory rape because the court deemed that this type of relationship was ‘common’ within the Romani community. Across Europe, Romani women and girls are routinely failed by state institutions that fail to protect them from sexual and domestic forms of violence.
🎙 Our Advocacy & Communications Officer, Judit Ignácz spoke on BBC Woman's Hour about the outrageous recent decision, and how sexual violence is not and never will be a part of any Romani culture anywhere.
