TOXIC NEIGHBOURS: HOW A CHINESE MINING GIANT ENDANGERS ROMANI LIVES IN SERBIA

A few hundred kilometres from Belgrade, in the Serbian city of Bor, lies one of the world’s largest copper reserves—and one of Europe’s most shocking examples of environmental racism.

Here, more than 300 Roma live on the edge of a massive mine, facing toxic pollution, segregation, and state neglect. Their lives have been upended by corruption, discrimination, and the unchecked power of a multinational mining company supported by the Serbian State.

As Serbia’s political system teeters and environmental destruction deepens, this Romani community are searching for a way out of this toxic nightmare and stand as a warning of what happens when profit comes before people.
