Nguyen Van Nam, referred to as Ah Nam, was the focus of a Wildlife Justice Commission investigation from 2016 until 2019. He was arrested in Hanoi on 30 September 2019 in connection with the illegal trade of ivory. On 16 July 2020 he was convicted and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
