A foundation of Hope and Sustainability
This video shows how a simple biogas system provides new solutions for farming communities in # Eritrea. Converting cow manure into clean cooking fuel allows families in Merghida farm, located in the Adi Keih sub-region of Debub region, as well as those like Tesfu and Dehab in Geremi village, Seregeka sub-region in the Maekel region, no longer collect firewood, thereby protecting trees and enhancing health. This change helps protect local trees and supports a healthier, more sustainable daily life.
The direct benefits:
✔ Clean Energy: Supplies reliable, smoke-free cooking fuel for homes.
✔ Forest Protection: Reduces the need to gather firewood, preserving trees.
✔ Healthy Farms: Creates natural fertilizer to improve soil and crops.
✔ Community Strength: A local answer that builds resilience and provides new opportunities.
The Climate Reason: Why Biogas Makes a Difference
Methane (CH₄) is a potent greenhouse gas. In the short term, it traps over 80 times more heat than CO₂. Capturing methane from livestock waste through biogas systems is one of the most effective near-term actions we can take for the climate, offering quick benefits while supporting communities.
This project is a clear example of how inclusive, local ideas contribute to a more sustainable future.
