Alabama’s ‘Pretty Cool’ Plan for Robots in Maternity Care Sparks Debate
CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz keeps touting the use of robots to fix the maternity care deserts in Alabama. And, it’s true, with its rural obstetric services disappearing and some of the highest maternal mortality rates in the nation, Alabama’s transformation plan includes using telerobotic ultrasounds at “regional care hubs” across the state. The idea has worked in remote northern Canada but is it the right solution in the Deep South?
