Government Shutdown Ends, FDA To Remove Safety Warning From Some Menopause Treatments

Here’s what happened in health care this week: 

— The longest federal shutdown is over. Seven Democratic senators and an independent joined with Republicans to vote to end the shutdown. Senate Republicans promised to hold a vote to extend ACA subsidies, a vote critics say is doomed to fail. 

— Some Republicans say they’d be open to keeping those subsidies if they were aimed at people with lower incomes and if Democrats agreed to more abortion restrictions. 

— The FDA will remove safety warnings from hormone replacement therapy products containing estrogen, used to treat menopause symptoms.
