How India is Modernizing Its Military for 2047

In this episode of Carnegie Defense Insights, host Dinakar Peri breaks down the landmark decisions made at last week's Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting, which cleared capital procurements worth ₹2.38 lakh crore. The episode also looks at India’s military modernization from strengthening air defense network and the Armed Forces Vision document 2047 that is aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. In this episode: • S-400 Air Defense Expansion — Five additional S-400 regiments cleared for procurement at over $6 billion, following their combat-proven performance during Operation Sindoor where they intercepted incoming missiles and downed a Pakistani aircraft 300 km inside Pakistani airspace. This strengths the country’s long range air defense network. • Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) — The IAF looks to induct 60 transport aircraft in the class of 18 to 30 tons to replace the ageing AN-32s and IL-76s. Three contenders are in the race — Lockheed C-130J, Embraer C-390, and Airbus A400M — who have already lined up partnerships with India companies to meet local manufacture requirements. • Tunguska & Dhanush — A Tunguska air defense deal was signed to bolster the Army's mobile layered air defense, while additional indigenous Dhanush artillery guns have also been cleared. • Armed Forces Vision 2047 — A three-phase military roadmap aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047. It proposes a Drone Force, Cyber Command, Space Command, and a Common Defense Forces Act to prepare India for new age warfare. 🔔 Subscribe | 👍 Like | 💬 Comment #IndiaDefense #S400 #DAC #MTA #Vision2047 #OperationSindoor #IndianAirForce #CarnegieDefenseInsights Chapters 00:00 Overview of Recent Defense Acquisitions 01:03 S-400 Long-Range Air Defense Systems 07:04 Medium Transport Aircraft and Their Importance 13:22 Defense Forces Vision 2047 and Strategic Planning
