Global Launch of the Sphere Handbook Revision

As the sector adapts to profound change, the Sphere Handbook remains a unifying framework for quality, accountability, and dignity in crisis response. First published in 2000 after the failures of international response to the Rwandan genocide, and revised every 4-8 years, the Sphere Handbook guides over 80% of all humanitarian response globally. Sphere has always been written by humanitarians for humanitarians, and revision is a moment for the community to come together, learn from the past, and prepare for the future. Your engagement is critical in helping shape a relevant, fit for the future, community-led, and truly global Sphere Handbook for all who deliver and depend on humanitarian assistance. The updated handbook will reflect major shifts since the 2018 edition: the COVID-19 pandemic; rapid advances in digital technology and AI; the restructuring of global aid institutions; escalating climate challenges; and increasingly complex and protracted conflicts. A renewed focus on people-centred and locally led action must ensure that humanitarian standards reflect today's world, supported by strong partnerships across authorities, NGOs, civil society, UN agencies, academia, and the private sector. Please join us in shaping the next generation Sphere Handbook. Bring your ideas, experience, and perspectives, and hear from the some of the key people coordinating revision topics. Tell us your priorities for the new edition, and find out how you can get involved. Learn more at https://spherestandards.org
