Boosting Farmers’ Income: Maher’s Nursery Success | Acted
Meet Maher Aqel, a Jordanian farmer cultivating grapes on an 8-donum plot, producing around 7 tons annually. His peak harvest season runs from August to September, supporting a household of six.
Through the Grow Economy consortium, Maher received a tailored tool kit, including grafting shears, which boosted his nursery productivity and grafting success. Today, he runs his own nursery as an additional source of income, supplying multiple nurseries in his community and establishing agreements with nurseries in Amman.
This story highlights how practical tools and support help smallholder farmers diversify income, increase productivity, and strengthen livelihoods. Acted and the Grow Economy consortium continue to support Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians across Ajloun, Irbid, Balqa, and Madaba, promoting sustainable agriculture, resilience, and local economic growth.
