Applications of UNBL to support action for NBSAP updates, implementation readiness, and 7NR
The session will provide an opportunity for five countries to showcase their use of specific features available on the UN Biodiversity Lab (UNBL) spatial data platform to support their work around planning, monitoring, and reporting for CBD.
Ghana: Use of UNBL to access over 1,000 global data layers and 12 metrics to fill national data and indicator gaps based on national needs
Cuba: Use of the UNBL workspace as a stable repository for national data
Ecuador: Development of custom national metrics using the UNBL workspace
South Africa: Custom application of the Essential Life Support Area (ELSA) Integrated Spatial Planning Tool to support the NBSAP update
Colombia: Technical collaboration to spatially evaluate potential OECMs
All features highlighted in this session are freely available to all Parties on UNBL, with further technical support available on an at-cost basis.
Following the country presentations, participants will be invited to join breakout rooms on Zoom for further peer to peer exchange, which will benefit from the participation and moderation of CBD technical and scientific cooperation support centre (TSCC) representatives, to discuss challenges and opportunities around the use of spatial data for national action under the CBD. The session will draw on the central role of TSCCs in supporting knowledge dissemination and peer exchange, as well as their continued leadership in promoting the use of spatial planning for informed decision-making.
