Germany and Poland in Geopolitically Challenging Times
With H.E. Aleksander Kwaśniewski, former President of the Republic of Poland
German-Polish relations are a cornerstone of European cooperation. While both countries are closely interconnected economically, politically, and culturally, their relationship continues to be shaped by a tragic historic past, strategic cultures, and perceptions of security threats. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has profoundly reshaped the European security order and placed questions of deterrence, resilience, and strategic responsibility at the center of political debate. At the same time, intensifying global power shifts – including uncertainty about long-term transatlantic engagement and increasing geopolitical competition – are challenging Europe’s capacity to act. This event provides an opportunity to engage with Aleksander Kwaśniewski, former President of the Republic of Poland, on Poland’s role in Europe, the future of Euro-Atlantic security, and the strategic importance of German-Polish relations.
