European Defense without America
We discuss Europe’s path towards a more self-reliant defense architecture at a moment when the United States is scaling back its long-standing transatlantic commitment. Europe is facing enormous strategic challenges while lacking important military capabilities, such as air defense, satellite reconnaissance, and military cloud computing. We examine how the European defense industry can overcome critical dependencies, a key question addressed in the new “Sparta 2.0” paper, co-authored, among others, by DGAP President Tom Enders and our panelist Nico Lange.
Speakers:
Daniel S. Hamilton, Senior Non-Resident Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute of Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS)
Nico Lange, Founder and Director, IRIS (Institute for Risk Analysis and International Security)
Justyna Gotkowska, Deputy Director, Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW)
