China Strikes Back: An Update on the US-China Trade and Tech War
We look at the new wave of technology and export restrictions announced by China on October 9. These measures are widely seen as a response to the introduction of a “50% rule” by the United States for its entity list – a rule that essentially restricts trade for foreign companies that are considered contrary to US interests. This tit-for-tat move threatens to disrupt a fragile truce in the ongoing trade and technology war between the United States and China, which was meant to pave the way for a potential meeting of the leaders of both countries in the coming months. Our panel examine the implications of these new controls, focusing on battery technologies, rare earth minerals, and other key sectors affected by them.
