Muna’s Message to Mothers Everywhere | Poetry for Girls’ Protection in Sudan

In Gedaref State, Sudan, poet and community protection network member Muna Haj Awad Mustafa Al-Suni uses the power of poetry to speak out against harmful practices affecting girls. Through her poem “A Message to Mothers Everywhere,” Muna calls on mothers and communities to listen, reflect and protect their daughters from practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage. From weddings to funerals and community gatherings, Muna shares her words to spark dialogue, challenge harmful traditions and encourage change. Through the Sudan Free of Female Genital Mutilation Programme, implemented with partners and supported by the United Kingdom Government, UNICEF has helped establish community child protection networks in areas with high FGM prevalence. These networks equip members with knowledge, dialogue skills and referral pathways to protect children and support survivors. Together, communities can help ensure that every girl grows up safe, healthy and free from harm. _____________________________________ Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel here: / ‪@TheUNICEFSudan The official UNICEF Sudan YouTube channel is your primary destination for the latest updates, stories from the field, and more about our work to realize the rights of every child.
