The Kenya National Police Service (NPS) College was established with the mandate to ''Train Staff to the Highest Possible Standards of Competence and Integrity and to Respect Human Rights and Dignity.'' The College therefore plays a crucial role in training police officers to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and prevent and detect crime in Kenya.
Modern policing standards and demands require continuous knowledge development, strengthened talent management, infrastructure refurbishment, and the provision of necessary equipment. Additionally, enhancing sustainable property management and developing proactive communications for selected law enforcement authorities are essential for ensuring appropriate transparency and sustainable outreach.
The USA through INL and UNODC, will support Kenya to upgrade the capacity of the National Police Service (NPS) College Main Campus in Kiganjo from 2 main axes - update and facilitate knowledge management including updating the current training curriculum and upgrade infrastructure to meet international standards.
The existing infrastructure at Kiganjo was built decades ago and no longer meets the demands of modern police training. Limited space, outdated facilities, and old infrastructure reduce the effectiveness of training. Upgrading the college will provide a better learning environment, enhance practical training, and improve the wellbeing of officers.
Infrastructure to be upgraded:
• Aberdare Hall
• College Library
• Mess Kitchens and Storage (A, B & C)
• Shooting Ranges
• Sports and Fitness Facilities
• Multi-Purpose Hall (School of Leadership)
