On 1 June 2026, the Deputy Secretary-General addressed the ECOSOC Operational Activities for Development Segment in New York, highlighting the critical role of Resident Coordinators in strengthening UN development coordination at country level. The remarks focused on the growing demands on the UN development system, the impact of declining development financing, progress since the 2019 reforms, and the need to further strengthen the Resident Coordinator system through the UN80 Initiative.
