Inside NABARD’s Innovation Challenge: Building Climate Intelligence for Indian Agriculture
India’s agricultural sector has been facing mounting climate risks. Every year, heatwaves, floods, droughts, and cyclones disrupt harvests, burdening livelihoods and rural financial systems. The country’s crop yields are projected to decline by 9% by 2040 compared to 2010 levels, and farmer incomes could fall by nearly 40% over the next ten years.
Currently, the sector is only able to react to extreme climate events. What’s missing is credible, near-term intelligence that would equip farmers, banks and insurers to make climate adaptive decisions. To fill this gap, NABARD has launched the National Climate Stack Innovation Challenge in collaboration with Gates Foundation and Dalberg Advisors. The Challenge is a call to climate scientists, data innovators, startups, and research institutions to design credible, reproducible near-term climate risk models.

Applications are open for the National Climate Stack Innovation Challenge until March 30, 2026. Apply here: https://lnkd.in/gFM6DyDs
