Lekil Na' - Sustainable Housing in the Heart of Southern Mexico

In the heart of southern Mexico, Chiapas pulses with the echoes of ancient voices and the vibrancy of living cultures. Here, past and present intertwine — thriving, evolving, and giving voice to a thousand untold stories. More than a region, Chiapas is a living mosaic of resilience, identity, and ancestral wisdom. Thanks to the partnership between Habitat for Humanity, CRDC Mexico, investment from Wesco International and the DOW Impact Fund, the Lekil Na' project was born, which means "Sustainable Housing" in the Tzotzil language. A project committed to innovation, inclusion, and respect for the environment. Habitat for Humanity Mexico delivered 11 EDGE-certified homes to Tzotzil families in the Monte Sión community in San Cristóbal de las Casas. This initiative provides a decent and safe home, directly impacting 11 families. The homes were built with concrete blocks mixed with Resin8, a technology that converts non-recyclable plastics into a high-value construction additive. Each home used 232 kilograms of RESIN8, reusing a total of 2 tons of plastic waste that, if not recycled, would have ended up in landfills or in the environment. To build a sustainable future is to act together — ensuring that innovation reaches those who need it now, and those who will walk these paths tomorrow.
