Grand Egyptian Museum - First EDGE Advanced Museum in Africa and the Middle East

Cairo's historic Grand Egyptian Museum achieved EDGE Advanced certification in 2024. With the crucial support from SECO Economic Cooperation and Development and the UK Government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, this is the first museum to achieve EDGE Advanced Certification in Africa and Middle East. This recognition underscores Egypt’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, while maintaining the legacy of respect for natural resources that runs deep in the country’s rich history. The museum's innovative design and energy-efficient features have not only earned Advanced green certification from IFC, but also set a new standard for green development in Egypt. The Grand Egyptian Museum Campus is one-of-a-kind with a site area of 500,000 m², with the museum itself comprising a total built-up area of 76,658 m². The high-end sustainable design of the museum contributed to the project’s success in earning the EDGE Advanced Green Building Certification. 🔗Read more: https://www.ifc.org/en/pressroom/2024/ifc-recognizes-the-grand-egyptian-museum-as-the-first-edge-advanced-green-museum-in-africa-and-the-middle-east
