Keeping our citizens safe online

Australia has led the world in establishing laws that ban the use of certain social media platforms for people aged under 16. It was controversial, but many countries are looking at this legislation as a possible model to address their own concerns. This panel discussed the impact of social media on people – including children – across different countries and demographics, and the way that laws in one country can set precedents for others. Speakers included: Julie Inman Grant, Australia's eSafety Commissioner, Fifi Aleyda Yahya, Indonesia's Director General of Public Communications and Media, and David Speers, the ABC's National Political Lead and Host of Insiders.
