Building national strength through innovative technology industries
This session explored the different national approaches to innovation and how governments can balance competing needs including making strategic public investments in critical technologies to bolster sovereign capability, empowering the private sector to seed and scale and encouraging rapid building of infrastructure such as data centres through subsidies and other incentives. The session explored how democratic nations can avoid falling behind while also bringing their people along with them as technology diffuses through society and the economy.
Speakers included: Mary Delahunty, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia Limited, Mehran Gul, Author of 'The New Geography of Innovation', and Kate Glazebrook, Head of Impact and Operating Principal at Blackbird. This session was moderated by Aruna Sathanapally, Chief Executive Officer of the Grattan Institute.
