On Vio Island, Fiji, development goes far beyond infrastructure.
This video tells the story of how the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Government of Fiji, implemented an integrated development approach to strengthen community resilience and improve livelihoods for families living on Vio Island. More than the construction of an evacuation centre or the installation of solar panels for rural electrification, the initiative focused on long-term, people-centred development. By linking climate resilience, renewable energy, disaster preparedness, and socio-economic opportunities, the project supports communities to withstand climate shocks while improving everyday quality of life. Through this integrated approach, families on Vio Island are better equipped with safe shelter during emergencies, reliable clean energy, and enhanced socio-economic well-being, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable future.
