Sevina Wilkins, a 27-year-old mother of three has become one of the faces of Vanuatu’s renewable energy future.
She was working as Finance Officer for the first Pico-Hydro Power Station in Loltong, Northern Pentecost, Vanuatu. But what began as a role behind a desk has since evolved into something much bigger.
“Customers came to pay for their electricity bills and sometimes had technical questions that I couldn´t answer,” Sevina says.
Determined to step forward, she recently joined the first Certificate I in Electrotechnology training delivered under the UNDP Vanuatu Green Transformation (VGET) Project funded by the Government of Japan.
As an electrician, today Sevina is breaking barriers and showing that women can lead in fields traditionally dominated by men. Her journey represents the spirit of this year’s International Women’s Day theme: Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls. It is a powerful reminder that inclusive development — when women and girls have equal access to skills, opportunities, and leadership — leads to stronger, more sustainable communities.
