Advancing the Green Economy Transition in ASEAN Report Launch | Highlights | ADB SEADS

ASEAN's rapid economic growth has led to significant environmental challenges such as deforestation, pollution, and inadequate waste management. The rising energy demand and carbon emissions have also increased sustainability and climate vulnerability concerns, threatening the region's competitiveness and stability. To ensure long-term prosperity, ASEAN must adopt a green economy focused on low-carbon, resource-efficient, and inclusive growth. But how can countries measure progress in their transition to a green economy? A new report from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Advancing the Green Economy Transition in ASEAN, provides the first baseline assessment of the region's green economy. The report includes baseline measurements, review of policy and regulatory frameworks, identification of opportunities for green jobs and private-sector investments, and actionable recommendations for green economy expansion across the region. ADB launched the report on 12 March, 2:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m., at the Ascott, Bonifacio Global City, Manila. The event explored key findings from the report while also providing insights on how the region could address challenges holding it back from advancing the green economy agenda. The launch was a side event of the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting. SPEAKERS • Ma.
